Stakeholder Engagement

Global Strategic Platforms

World Economic Forum

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is a global multi-stakeholder platform at the global leadership level. At the core of its membership stand the 1000 largest or leading companies on our planet. We have been engaged as regional partners for the Middle East and as industry partners for the investor community over the last seven years. In 2009 Abraaj was accepted to join the ranks of the 100 most important member companies deemed to have unique strategic sustainability and philanthropy initiatives. These form the Strategic Partners of the World Economic Forum with whom we have engaged into multi-dimensional communities and task forces including Global Agenda Councils, The Young Global Leaders, Global Growth Companies, Chief Risk Officers Community and Investors Industry Partners.

Emerging Markets Private Equity Association

One of our most important relationships to engage with our industry and its related stakeholders lies with EMPEA, an independent, global membership association, whose mission is to catalyze private equity and venture capital investment in global growth markets. EMPEA’s 280 members include the leading institutional investors and private equity and venture capital fund managers across developing and developed markets.

Through EMPEA we have access to an unparalleled global growth markets industry network which delivers to us authoritative intelligence as it pertains to trends and strategic issues impacting our investment. EMPEA’s members represent more than 50 countries and nearly $900 billion in assets under management.

We work with EMPEA in numerous ways including through our participation on the organization’s board of directors. We run regular webcasts providing the EMPEA network with our views on the regional markets in which we operate. Our next venture together will see the light in London for an inaugural summit entitled ‘Capital Impact: How Long Term Investors Create Value In Emerging Markets’ through which we plan to engage with the global private equity industry.

Private Equity International

Private Equity International (PEI) is the leading financial information group dedicated to the alternative asset classes of private equity, real estate and global infrastructure. It is an independent company with over 70 staff based in three regional offices - London, New York and Singapore - and is wholly owned by its management and employees.

Institute for International Finance

The IIF is the world’s only global association of financial organizations. It was created in 1983 in response to the international debt crisis. Through this network we are given the opportunity to interact with the leadership of the financial services industry worldwide including commercial banks, insurance companies and multilateral agencies. We are benefiting from the institute’s proven research capacities especially as it focuses on promoting sound financial systems in global growth markets in particular. We see our relationship with the IIF as yet another mechanism through which we can access best practices in industry standards, sharpen our risk management function and also improve our capacity to understand the changing and complex global financial system.

International Institute for Strategic Studies

In 2010 we became a partner to the IISS, the world’s leading authority on political military conflict. Founded in 1958 and based in London it has offices in the US, in Singapore and in Bahrain. Much of the institute’s early work focused on nuclear deterrence and arms control and was hugely influential in setting the intellectual structures for managing the Cold War. Today its mandate has a broad context which we feel Abraaj Capital needs to be involved in and supportive of, especially given the characteristics of global growth markets. The IISS looks at the problems of conflict, however they are caused. It facilitates contacts between government leaders, business people and analysts that can lead to the development of better public policy in the fields of international relations and international security. We see in this relationship the potential to better understand the underlying present and future risks in global growth markets and a platform through which a private sector leader like Abraaj Capital can work with policy makers and governments towards better security for all.
