Stuart Comer

Chief Curator of Media and Performance Art, MoMA

Stuart Comer was appointed Chief Curator of the Department of Media and Performance Art at The Museum of Modern Art in 2013. Mr. Comer was co-curator of the Whitney Museum of American Art’s 2014 Biennial, and previously served as the first Curator of Film at Tate Modern, London, where he oversaw film and video work for the Tate Collection and Displays and was co-curator for the opening program of the Tanks at Tate Modern.

He has previously held positions at the Institute of Visual Culture in Cambridge and at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, and was co-curator of the Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2007. He has also organized projects at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College; Beirut Art Center; Kunstverein Munich; CASCO, Utrecht; Frieze Art Fair, London; and Whitechapel Art Gallery, London. He has contributed to numerous periodicals, including Artforum, Frieze, Afterall, Mousse, Parkett, and Art Review.

Mr. Comer received a BA (1990) in art history from Carleton College in Minnesota and an MA in curating contemporary art from the Royal College of Art, London.
